ACTION
- Invigorates the blood and relieves pain
For amenorrhea, menses pain, postpartum abdominal pain, epigastric pain, chest pain. - Dispels blood stasis and stops bleeding
For dark-purple uterine bleeding with clots, retained lochia due to stasis. - Treats swelling caused by fractured bones
- Treats a variety of insect and snake bites, topically and internally
Usage and Dosage
When used as a crude herb, it removes toxins and relieves stasis. When stir-baked, it can be used to stop bleeding. If prepared with vinegar, it circulates blood to alleviate pain. 5-10 g is used in decoction for oral use.
Note
It is in mutual antagonism with ginseng. Contraindicated for pregnant women and patients suffering from blood deficiency without stasis.
Used with caution for those with a weak stomach, especially when decocting the dense part of the herb essence. Not used for patients suffering from blood deficiency without stasis.
Storage
Keep in a dry place.
Description of Quality Herb
The good herb is dark brown in colour and has a definite shape. The surface is glossy, oily and has no impurities.
