ACTION
- Promotes diuresis to eliminate dampness from the lower-jiao and expel heat
For dampness-retention syndrome, such as edema, dysuria, diarrhoea and leucorrhagia - For dizziness due to the retention of phlegm
- For syndrome of kidney-fire excess manifested as dizziness, flushed face and hectic fever
- Treats yin-deficiency of the kidney
Usage and Dosage
5−10 g is used in decoction for oral use.
Professional Tips
Jian Zexie (Fujian Zexie) is mostly elliptical or ovate, has smooth surface and less tuberculate bud scars.
Chuan Zexie (Sichuan Zexie) is smaller in size, subspherical, has rough surface, many tubercules and rootlet scars. It is less powdery and the mass is liqht.
Storage
Keep in a ventilated and dry place, and protect from moths and moisture. Do not store for a long time. Store Zexie and Danpi (root cortex of peony) together, Zexie will not be vulnerable to moths and Danpi will not lose its colour easily.
Description of Quality Herb
The good one is big in size, yellowish white in colour, smooth and powdery.
Jian Zexie is commonly regarded as high-grade.
