Source Rehmannia is the dried or fresh root of Rehmannia glutinosa Libosch. (Fam. Scrophulariaceae).
Producing Areas Henan, Hebei, Inner Mongolia and Northeast China. The best is produced in Henan.

Action
- Clears heat and cools the blood
For heat in the yin level causing very high fever, thirst, and a dark red tongue. Also used for haemorrhage, epistaxis, spitting blood, bloody urine, and uterine bleeding. - Nourishes yin and increases fluids
For heat-injured yin causing dry mouth, throat pain, wasting and thirsting disorder, and constipation. - Clears heart-fire
For irritability, restlessness, mouth and tongue sores, or insomnia.
Usage and Dosage
10 – 30g is decocted for oral use. 60g of the juice pounded from the fresh one is taken orally.
Notes Contraindicated in the case with phlegm turbidity, stagnation of summer heat and dampness, stuffiness in the chest and anorexia. Use with caution in the case with asthenic cold of the spleen and stomach, poor appetite and loose stools.
It is incompatible with Lilu (Rhizoma et Radix Veratri).
Storage
Keep in a dry, ventilated place. Protect from mould and moths.
